    New Toronto cap logo: Amazing.
New Marlins cap logo: ugliest thing I’ve ever seen in MLB.

  2. Ken says:

I can’t wait to see the new Marlins uniforms simply ’cause I want to see how hard I will laugh!!! 😀

  3. FLlogoman says:

Mr Creamer…..I think it should be noted that the Anaheim Angels won the 2002 World Series before becoming the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim….so, it’s the first tome since 2005, to be exact.

  4. Kris says:

The Jays cap logo doesn’t look right without the baseball. Other than that, I love it.

  5. Tim says:

I’m glad the Jays will return close to their old logo. For the Marlins, if it is anything close to the cap logo I say WORST. LOGO. EVER. The cap logo looks like a second rate hotel logo. Just my take.

    And that says something.

  6. Steve-o says:

I like the new Jays logos but, I would still like to see black in it, if they coloured the dark blue to black I would really like it better, if you look at pictures of a real blue jay the dar blue portion is indeed black, I’ll miss the black for sure, but who knows the way the jays change logos this will be changed again with in the next 10-15 years.

New Marlins Logo Looks Like It Came Straight Out Of A 80s Club

  8. paul says:

Permanent throwback Jays logo? Awesome! Those poor marlins though. That mess is even worse then those old humble bee pirates caps. Even worse then those hideous astros clunkers from back in the day. For shame Miami. For shame

  9. JustinF says:

The Blue Jays’ is great. I love the modernization. Who cares about a baseball and split lettering? I just love the bird.

As for the Marlins, let’s hope to god that this is fake. The thing I hate most is having 3 contrasting colors. I hate how teams nowadays have that.

  10. Aaron says:

I love the Blue Jays logo concept. It definitely looks like the original logo with a modern twist. As for the Miami Marlins concept, I’m not sure what to make of it. Whether or not these concepts are legit or not remains to be seen. I can’t wait to see the uniforms. I know where the Marlins are trying to go with this possible new logo if it is in fact the new logo, but they should use their current logo and just replace the “F” with an “M”, but slightly stylized though. If they use this concept, keep the same colour scheme of black, teal and silver. I don’t think there needs to be yellow or orange with it.

For the Blue Jays, I hope at least this is in fact the new logo for 2012. Keep the maple leaf on there, but it doesn’t have to be so big.

  11. Aaron says:

Reason for doing without the orange and yellow, too much like the Houston Astros from the 1970’s early 80’s.

  12. Blitz says:

I can’t believe the number of people who are loving on that horrid Jays logo – It literally looks like someone’s first day on illustrator pieced together with some cheap crappy clipart. As if the Jets abomination wasn’t bad enough – what a terrible year for graphic design everywhere!!!

As for the Marlinslug… Just terrible.

  13. F19 says:

The Blue Jays logo is superb. That is the kind of thing the Marlins need: a modernization keeping the same basic color scheme they’ve always had.

Unfortunately it looks like we’re getting the lovechild of the OKC Thunder colors, South Beach and the Dolphin Stadium logo. Simply awful and every bit as bad as I imagined Jeff Loria would churn out. The day I set foot in that new ballpark is the day Loria is gone and the team pulls a Sabres and goes back to what is right: TEAL and BLACK.

This has to be one of the biggest downgrades ever. Going from one of the sharpest looks in baseball, that was very fitting for South Florida with the teal color of the ocean, to likely the worst look in baseball by far.

RIP Florida Marlins. You will be sorely missed.

Looks like I’ll be wearing my Jupiter Hammerheads cap for the foreseeable future.

  14. The Mur says:

@ FLlogoman, is it really a relocation if they are still playing in the same stadium as they were pre-renaming?

  15. Ian K says:

-Pukes into the nearby waste basket-

Good god, what the hell is that thing that you’re calling the new Miami logo? I sincerely hope this is something planted to mislead people because that is the ugliest thing I have ever seen in pro sports.

  16. DMadSport says:

This Blue Jays cap logo looks okay, although it does seem to have a “just thrown together” feel (i.e. the maple leaf, which seems to have been superimposed alongside the bird’s head and doesn’t blend well). It’s good that the Jays are taking a “Back to the Future” approach to their redesign, going back to a version of their original logo. Though I am one who really liked the 1997-2002 logo, the original insignia always did have a feel of having one foot in tradition (baseball) and the other foot reaching for a forward look (the lettering); I hope the new logo will be something similar.

As for this Marlins logo… hooo boy, is that awful; one look at it and I instantly think “hot club on South Beach” than “baseball.” I hope and pray it really is a fake (PLEASE, let it be fake).

  17. bleuet says:

… and the leaking of Toronto’s franchise new logo started a tornado of rumours over the web: team will have a new name: The Canadian birds!…

No I am kidding, I am glad they go back, a great decision. I would just remove the leaf.

I thought the other logo was a new McDonald’s fish specialty restaurant logo.

  18. Kevin G. Strickland says:

Someone leaked the rumored Marlins cap.

Can anyone say whether or not it’s authentic-ish, yet? If so… the theory of how terrible the uniforms are going to wind up becomes all the more real.

  19. Kevin G. Strickland says:

@Creamer. Ah. Any leads on what the hat WILL look like?

  20. Steve-O says:

I thought Loria made his money on art designs. I like the Jays logo would still like to see a little bit of black in it though, but keeping the Dark Blue as the primary colour. There is just to much blue being used in sports this year. But at the least blue is in their name but in general there is to much.

  21. Aaron says:

The Marlins new logo itself isn’t bad, but as I said before, use the black, teal and silver combination. Marlin blue isn’t a bad change if they want to get rid of the teal, but there are a lot of teams that use blue. Perhaps if yellow or orange is included in the colour scheme, maybe either should be used discreetly.

  22. Danya says:

I think when it comes to new logos anything that isn’t a tweak to a retro logo gets impulsively hated on automatically. I don’t think the Marlins logo looks like the greatest thing in the world (particularly the abstract marlin is bothering me), but I think the color scheme is interesting and fresh. What would everyone prefer, another team going to dark blue and gold/red? I give the Marlins credit for thinking differently. I’m intrigued by what this could look like as a wordmark on a jersey. I also don’t understand why people say it looks more appropriate for a club on South Beach. That seems like the entire point to me and I love it. Miami is a unique place with a distinctive identity to most people, so why shouldn’t its sports teams evoke elements of that?

With all that being said, the new/retro Blue Jays logo looks fantastic.

  23. Dennis says:

I hear that they will call the Marlins new stadium the Copacabana. Professional art designers and marketers can not be serious with this. It is great to see the Blue Jays come to their senses. Great to see the modified “throwback” logo. I like the updated BlueJay head, and can deal without the baseball. The Red mapleleaf in the logo actually works. For some Canadian team, as such with the star with Dallas teams, it seems out of place. Welcome back old friend.

  24. Dave says:

Wow!!! That marlins logo combines all the bad trends of the 70’s,80’s and 90’s. I wonder if they will have high stirrups ant the elastic waist bands. I have to think these will be modified before Opening Day.

  25. hotrod2001 says:

Gee Marlins, the OKC Thunder called…they want their colors back.

The Jays’ look is good…nice to bring back an old classic.

  26. Aaron says:

    RE: Dave

I’m pretty sure they’ll be modifications before opening day as well. Hopefully, for the Marlins sake.

  27. Steve says:

    Wow Blue Jays thats awesome!

  28. F19 says:

@Danya The problem is that the Marlins already have a color scheme that is unique and fits the market very well. And not the primarily black/silver look that Loria implemented in 2003, but the true teal/black/silver set the Marlins had from 1993-2002. It’s been pretty much universally accepted as a solid identity and original color scheme.

And also, I’ve seen some folks praise the Marlins for “thinking outside the box” and “doing something different”. But I bet those people would change their tunes if it was their beloved childhood team that was being mangled by an “art” dealer from out of town.

  29. Trevor McCue says:

The Oklahoma City Thunder would like to thank the Miami Marlins for using their horrible color scheme to somehow make a worse logo, wow.

  30. spartyfan says:

Jays logo looks sweet. I hope the Marlins one is a joke because that is easily the worst logo I have ever seen in my life.

  31. EdinAZ says:

Jays logo – a return to a modernized “classic” Jays look is sorely overdue. Great work and I hope it’s not an alternate – the experiments of the last 10+ years were disastrous. ….Disagreeing with other commenters – what is the obsession with black? They’re the Blue Jays – and black just doesn’t fit the motif well – my opinion.

…But it carries over to the Marlin discussion. Very art-deco, and there have been rumors they would go in a similar direction. Hopefully it will look better than the image we have in our minds now. Again – what’s the obsession with black? The team *has* confirmed that black will be a significant part of the new branding theme. Sorry – when I think of Florida and Miami – I don’t think of black. I don’t. I don’t think of black when I hear “Toronto Blue Jays” either… Or Oakland A’s (thankfully they killed that experiment), or NY Mets. Here’s one vote for a dying trend, though I know others love it. Black sells, and marketers confirm…

  32. VAP19 says:

Nothing wrong with the Jays going back to basics here. I do agree with DMadSport who said that it’s a tad thrown together. Personally I hope they are both fakes, as both would need work compositionally speaking. The Miami logo’s saving grace is that the color scheme is at least different and fresh as Danya pointed out, however the Marlins may make the same mistake that the Jays are trying to fix with this “retro-redo”: That being when you completely change an established logo and look with no regard for what has been done, you are very likely to tick off your die-hard fan base, and draw a lot of fire. Some people may like it but your core fan base may never forgive you for it. I want to see the Marlins do something new and fresh and thus capitalize on this unique opportunity to draw new fans, however you don’t want to completely ostracize those who like the current colors and buy tickets to see that team play. I suppose I was expecting/hoping for something like what I saw when I google searched “Miami marlins” In that search was a very clean “Miami” script logo underlined by a marlin dorsal fin. follow that link and at the bottom of the page you’ll find that and some other very nice, clean black and teal logos posted by Athletics17.

  33. Sean says:

I really like the Jays logo – slightly sleeker Jay ala current logo with the retro style ties it nicely…

The Marlins logo is only missing one thing – Tubbs sitting on the top of the M. And a pixeled Tubbs at that. Or perhaps an ASCII art Tubbs. Poor Miami fans.

  34. Ben says:

The marlins new logo looks like it should be on the side of a hotel like the Hyatt Place.

  35. Joeblow says:

Marlins logo reminds me of the Tropics in the movie “semi-pro”

  36. B. A. Smith says:

The Blue Jays logo is great! Enough said. But the Marlins….are you kidding? They can not decide on that. Way to colorful, way to ugly, it’s just plain bad.

  37. BAndrewV says:

Toronto: Thank you! It’s not confirmed yet, but it’s such an improvement from this current logo which seems to be a disconnect from any tradition that the Blue Jays are so rich with!
Miami: I think I understand it. There is a party vibe from these colors that relates well to the culture. It has colors that are representative of the Latin/Central American influence of the city. Stylistically, I’m not a fan, but I think I understand it. That’s my two cents.

  38. Doug says:

Ugh! Miami takes another step into damnation! Ugly logo!

  39. Doug says:

Seeing this crap makes me hope the Mayans are correct about 2012.

  40. Thomas says:

Seriously? The Blue Jays logo is alright, but SERIOUSLY? ITS NOT THE 70’s!

  41. RyanC says:

Im a marlins fan and the one thing i was looking forward to cause since we dont win, was the new stadium, new jersey and new logo.
They did show that on our news station in FtLauderdale so its a big possibility that that is it. But i just hope the jerseys make up for this mistake.

  42. Aaron says:

    ATTN: Ryan C

I hope the jerseys make up for it too.

  43. Jackie Cleveland says:

    Toronto: Finally!!!:)
Miami: You’ve got to be kidding…it looks like a casino resort thing.

  44. KEVIN EVANS says:

  45. Thomas says:

The marlins need a neat logo to go with a neat stadium!

  46. Vega says:

It looks like the OKC Thunder’s logo threw up all over theis new Miami logo…hope they just keep the orange w/ blue.

  47. Craig says:

As a Jays fan, I do like the throwback. The present logo on the hat just looked far to large when attached with the J. I don’t know why they didn’t just have the Jay head on it’s own, it would have looked far cleaner. As for using the Maple Leaf, I don’t get it. We’re the Toronto Blue Jays, and we already have the Maple Leafs. Why do we have a need to tell everyone that Toronto is in Canada?? I think most people already know…

  48. logo-logonian says:

Thanks Chris. Over the moon with the Blue Jays (no more just ‘Jays’ nonsense!) and i’m actually warming to the Marlins logo. Dare I say I dig it? The color scheme is completely unique. Just having no black anywhere near it is an automatic upgrade. Besides, teal is as dated as the early 90s Cross Colours jeans and Snow singing “Informer”.
