Adrian Gonzalez wearing 2011 All-Star Cap?

Watching the Blue Jays / Red Sox game this evening and noticed a patch on the side of Adrian Gonzalez’s cap:

Looks like Gonzalez is wearing the 2011 All-Star Game cap a little early… is this an error on his part?  Is he having some fun? Or is this something All-Stars throughout the league are doing today?

UPDATE (9:13pm): It is indeed something all the 2011 All-Stars are wearing tonight, and not only is there a patch on the side but also star patches on the back of the cap as you can see in this picture of the Milwaukee Brewers Richie Weekes:

And Toronto’s Jose Bautista:

  1. Unwind says:

Jose Bautista’s wearing the hat patch as well. Seems to be a league-wide thing.

  2. Wally says:

Judging by that game, all the All-Stars are wearing them, Bautista and Ellbury were wearing them as well, they have two stars on the back, as well as two stars on either side of the league logo on the back of their jerseys. and I’m pretty sure they’re wearing them right up to the ASG.

  3. Larry says:

Will these hats (with the stars) on the back be for sale? They don’t look amazing, but I’d shell out for one.

  4. Curt says:

    Matt Cain had that too.

But they also have stars on the back of their neck, around the MLB logo of the JERSEY.

  5. Dylan says:

    It’s “Rickie,” not “Richie” Weeks

  6. Diego Garcia says:

If you order the cap through mlb.com, you’ll get the cap, and then they’ll ship the star kits out at a later date. I just got off the phone with one of the mlb.com people, and they confirmed the stars will be shipped out at a later date.
